Lesson 6: Box Mold

Learning to understand the complex and scientific manufacturing process of injection molding requires the ability to apply theoretical information to actual molded parts. This lesson focuses on the development and execution of a process development strategy for a single cavity box mold.

In this lesson you will learn: how to optimize a process to achieve product quality while reducing residual molded-in stress; how a lower mold temperature and faster injection speed affect injection pressure, a polymer’s temperature range during filling, and clamp tonnages at fill; how a two-step flow speed profile can reduce injection pressures at fill and overall clamp tonnages; and the importance of the transition from filling to packing and holding as an opportunity for development optimization.
