Polystyrene (PS) is a versatile, lightweight thermoplastic polymer commonly used in various applications due to its clarity, rigidity, and cost-effectiveness. PS is often used in disposable cutlery, CD cases, and laboratory ware. It’s used for packaging, insulation, and protective cushioning when expanded into foam (known as expanded polystyrene or EPS). While it’s inexpensive and easy to mold, polystyrene is not biodegradable, raising concerns about its environmental impact.
