Lesson 5: Battery Case Mold

Because the injection molding process is a complex and scientific molding process, having a solid understanding of all the variables and their interdependency is critical for success. In this lesson we will continue to apply theoretical molding process development information to an actual part. This lesson focuses on the development and execution of a process development strategy for a two-cavity battery case mold.

In this lesson you will learn: how to evaluate injection pressure developing during cavity filling by performing a short shot study; how increasing fill speed causes shearing which affects viscosity and required injection pressures; the process development steps to take to achieve a target cycle time; and when setting a melt temperature slightly below the recommended range is possible.
