Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable and bio-based thermoplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch or sugarcane. Due to its environmentally friendly properties, it’s commonly used in packaging, disposable tableware, and 3D printing. PLA is compostable under industrial conditions and emits fewer greenhouse gases during production than traditional plastics. However, it has lower heat resistance and mechanical strength, limiting its use in high-temperature applications.
